Education

The challenge and goal of the WDC Education Committee is to educate administrators, teachers and students on the value of dance education.
The primary goal of the Education Committee is to increase the quality and quantity of dance education in the schools until it achieves status comparable to other arts and academic areas in the school curriculum.

To this end the Education Committee:

  • helped establish dance certification of teachers,
  • prepared the following for the Department of Public Instruction: Dance: Creative/Rhythmic Movement Education (1977), A Summary of the Status of Dance Education in Wisconsin Public Schools 1978-79, A Guide to Curriculum Planning in Dance (1988), and Wisconsin Model Academic Standards of Dance (1997).

Dance Curriculum Workshops

The WDC Education Committee is available to conduct dance curriculum development workshops. A descriptive brochure is available from the WDC Executive Office.

Speakers Bureau

Members of the WDC Education Committee are available to speak on dance education issues and to explain the premise that dance should be included in the basic education of all students. Information is available from the WDC Office.
